Beautiful Weekend got its start in 2005 when Joel Roston (Big Bear) asked Noell Dorsey to join him in performing a few songs by Olive Grain, a mutual friend's long-defunct band. Noell agreed under the condition that they write their own songs to fill out the set. Having met and played together at a conservatory (classical guitar and voice, respectively) in 1997, their collaboration was effortless. The result was a collection of quiet, somber compositions resting somewhere on a spectrum between loving and haunting....
